Gay teen Kevin Keller went cruising in the woods on Riverdale this week

The CW

It’s another bold storyline from Riverdale.

The latest episode of the hit CW show, which streams on Netflix in the UK, opened with a scene of the show’s resident gay character Kevin Keller cruising for a hookup in the woods at night.

[SPOILER ALERT]

But Kevin’s passionate encounter ended in tragedy as he found Moose – the ‘straight’ varsity footballer who he’s hooked up with in the past – after he’s just been shot by the Black Hood in Lover’s Lane.

“Why can’t you just use GrindEm like every other gay in the world?” his best friend Betty asked.

While she might just be looking out for her friend – there is a killer on the loose, after all – things got a little too invasive when she followed him into the woods to bust him while cruising.

“I thought you said you weren’t gonna do this anymore?” Betty said. “I want you to have more respect for yourself.”

But Kevin quickly reminded her that, while she and her straight friends are busy deciding which classmates they fancy and where to go on dates, things aren’t always that easy for gay people…

“Respect for myself?” Kevin replied. “You act like we’ve got the same set of options, but we don’t. You live in this pale pink world of milkshakes and first kisses and ‘Am I gonna date Archie or Jughead?’

“Except for when you’re exploring your BDSM sexuality, which again, you’re allowed to do, but I’m not. Because why? This is what I’ve got, me [and] these woods. So please don’t come here and tell me its disgusting.

“If you can’t accept what I do – whatever I do – then we’re not really friends.”
